Formerly known as Clyde Creek North Secondary School during planning and design, Birranga is a Boonwurrung language word meaning feathertail glider — a name chosen following community and Traditional Owner consultation.

OSVgroup partnered with Kane to deliver the complete civil and landscape package for this new secondary school, which opened in January 2026 with Year 7 enrolments, growing year on year to meet strong demand in one of Clyde North's fastest-growing residential areas. Our scope spanned sports infrastructure, hardcourts, gathering spaces and extensive native landscaping — creating a connected, culturally grounded campus.

Scope of Works

OSVgroup delivered a comprehensive external works package across the site, including:

  • Construction of natural turf sports fields
  • Synthetic turf installation across play and gathering zones
  • Multi-sport hardcourts for basketball, netball and other activities
  • Full irrigation system design and installation
  • Concrete ramps, stairs and pathways
  • Installation of shelters and shade structures
  • Custom timber furniture and bench seating settings
  • All soft landscaping including turf, native garden beds, tree and shrub planting

Key Features

  • A central yarning circle with curved timber seating and synthetic turf, designed as a space for gathering, learning and connection
  • Custom Corten steel shelters featuring cut-out artwork inspired by native wildlife, casting patterned shade across outdoor learning areas
  • An Acknowledgement of Country feature, set into a sculptural boulder
  • A large shade sail over a circular gathering plaza for whole-school events
  • Extensive native and indigenous planting throughout, softening the built form and grounding the campus in its local landscape
  • Sandstone boulder edging and timber-edged garden beds creating natural, durable detail across the grounds

Lasting Impact

Birranga College's outdoor environment has been designed to grow alongside its student community, supporting learning, sport and connection from its very first year. Every element helps to create spaces where students feel a sense of belonging.
